Northside Piers Hosts BK Fashion Week{end}
Northside Piers acted as the host venue for BK-Fashion Week{end}, the primary annual event for Brooklyn-based fashion designers. The three-day fashion show included a mix of runway presentations, emerging design and cutting-edge art.
Providing a venue for Brooklyn-based designers is a natural extension of our commitment to the boroughs art and design community, said David Von Spreckelsen, senior vice president of Toll Brothers City Living.Were thrilled to have hosted BK Fashion Weekend at Northside Piers and to allow designers from throughout the borough to display their work.
Northside Piers also hosted the Opera Company of Brooklyn for a performance of Tosca, and the developers commissioned Mark Gibian, a Williamsburg-based artist, to create a shade feature for the propertys soon-to-open 400-foot public pier. Along with the pier, Northside Piers will feature an expansive esplanade that will allow the public great access to Williamsburgs waterfront and its views of Manhattan.
BK Fashion Week{end}, the primary platform of the non- profit Brooklyn Style Foundation, has done five seasons of shows in various Brooklyn neighborhoods. The Foundation has established a leadership role in the marketing and overall guidance of young fashion designers from Brooklyn.
Some of the strongest designers ever to show during BK Fashion Week{end} participated in this event, said Cybele Sandy, co-founder of BK Style Foundation.Northside Piers was the perfect venue and we are fortunate to have been given access to many of its exceptional spaces during all phases of production.

ABOUT BROOKLYN FASHION WEEK{END}
BK Fashion Week{end} made its critically acclaimed debut May 2006 at the Tobacco Warehouse at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, a 19th century landmark on the banks of the Hudson River. The event was created by the non- profit Brooklyn Style Foundation, which was founded as an incubator for emerging design.
ABOUT THE BK STYLE FOUNDATION
Brooklyn Style Foundation was created by Rick Davy and Cybele Sandy in late 2004. Realizing the dearth of opportunity for designers and the difficulty in breaking into the business, Sandy and Davy started a non-profit to champion design in Brooklyn and to pioneer a professional arena for design in the borough, comparable to Manhattans Seventh on Sixth. The Brooklyn Style Foundations mission is to act as an incubator for emerging fashion designers, through the provision of in-house line consulting and financing as well as manufacturing and marketing. The Foundation also intends to be of service to the wider Brooklyn community, championing self- esteem/ self image charities and by developing programs for at- risk youth.
